BULELENG AND SINGARAJA

Buleleng Regency is one of the largest regencies in the province of Bali, located in the northern part of Bali. Its capital is Singaraja city. Buleleng has area about ​​1,364.73 km2. Buleleng has the longest coastline, it is about 157 km. In 2024, the population of Buleleng Regency was 826,193 people, making it the most populous regency in Bali Province.

Most of the Buleleng Regency area is a highland area; hills and mountains stretch in the south, while in the north, along the coast, are lowlands.

HISTORY OF BULELENG

Before, the area of North of Bali was known as Den Bukit, till this area was united by a King called I Gusti Anglurah Panji Sakti from Wangsa Dalem Sagening by uniting all the regions in North Bali.

Then I Gusti Anglurah Panji Sakti be a king for the entire North Bali/Den Bukit area and began to expand his territory to Blambangan (Banyuwangi). After the death of I Gusti Ngurah Panji Sakti in 1704, the Buleleng Kingdom began to falter due to the civil war and the colonial areas began to rebel and carry out resistance such as rebellions.

PATUNG “SINGA AMBARA RAJA” (PATUNG SINGA BERSAYAP)

Singa Ambara Raja (Winged Lion) is the symbol of Buleleng Regency. The Singa Ambara Raja statue is located at point 0 of Singaraja city, precisely in the middle of the T-junction in front of the Buleleng Regency Regent's office.

The statue was built on a pentagonal foundation that symbolizes Pancasil (the five principles of the Indonesian philosophy), namely:

  1. The Principle of Almighty God.
  2. Principles of Just and Civilized Humanity.
  3. The Principle of Indonesian Unity.
  4. The principle of people's sovereignty led by the wisdom of deliberation among people's representatives
  5. The principle of social justice for all Indonesian society.

The Winged Lion has two wings consisting of 17 long feathers which symbolize the date 17, the date of the Proclamation of Independence of the Republic of Indonesia, August 17, 1945. The lion is holding a type of corn, in Balinese called “Jagung Gembal” with 8 leaves which symbolize the month of August, the month of Indonesian independence. Corn consists of 45 grains symbolizing the year 1945, the year of Indonesian independence. All of them are combined to symbolize the day, month, and year of the proclamation of the independence of the Republic of Indonesia, August 17, 1945.

The motto "Singa Ambara Raja" represents the heroic spirit of the Buleleng people. Where, this statue is supported by 9 lotus petals which symbolize 9 sub-districts (Kecamatan) in Buleleng.  Three elephant fish symbolize the strength, wisdom, and ability of the Buleleng people. Three bright gems symbolize alertness and readiness to face all possibilities. Singaraja's birth year is March 30, 1604.

 

City of Education

Buleleng is one of the areas in Bali which is famous as the City of Education. Entering the 1980s, the Faculty of Teachers (FKG) was established, which was one of the faculties of Udayana University. In 1993, it became STKIP Negeri Singaraja. After a long journey, STKIP changed to IKIP Negeri Singaraja in 2001, than in 2006 it was officially became Universitas Pendidikan Ganesha which is located in Singaraja.
