The 2025 Undiksha International Sumer School

The 2025 Undiksha International Summer School on "Glocalizing Bali Usadha & Sacred Wellness: Bridging Ancient Wisdom with Sustainable Living" aims to explore the deep-rooted traditions of Bali Usadha, a form of traditional herbal medicine practiced by the Balinese people. With centuries of knowledge passed down through generations, Usadha represents a holistic approach to health and well-being, incorporating natural healing methods, spiritual practices, and a deep connection to the environment. This unique form of medicine uses local herbs, rituals, and lifestyle practices to achieve harmony between body, mind, and spirit, which is essential to the Balinese worldview. As the world increasingly seeks sustainable living practices, Bali's Usadha offers invaluable insights into integrating ancient wisdom with modern-day ecological concerns.

The concept of "glocalization" in the context of this summer school aims to adapt and share these traditional practices on a global scale while maintaining their cultural integrity and local relevance. Participants will explore how Bali Usadha can be adapted to suit contemporary health challenges, from stress management to ecological sustainability. The course will also examine the role of sacred wellness practices in fostering a balanced relationship with nature, showing how Bali's indigenous knowledge can contribute to global conversations around sustainable living and environmental conservation. Through practical workshops and seminars, students will gain a deeper understanding of how to bridge the gap between ancient traditions and the modern world, ensuring that these practices not only survive but thrive in today's context.

This summer school also seeks to establish a platform for intercultural exchange, where participants from around the world can engage with local practitioners, healers, and spiritual leaders in Bali. By fostering collaboration and dialogue between different cultures, the program will encourage the exchange of ideas and practices that can be applied in both local and global contexts. Through this exchange, the summer school hopes to inspire a collective effort to preserve the wisdom of Bali Usadha and promote a more sustainable and conscious way of living. By bringing together people from diverse backgrounds, the program not only celebrates Bali's rich heritage but also promotes a global movement toward wellness and sustainability grounded in respect for ancient traditions.
